"Grind House" - noun - A downtown movie theater - in disrepair since its glory days as a movie palace of the '30s and '40s - known for "grinding out" non-stop double-bill programs of B-movies.
From groundbreaking directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez comes the ultimate film experience: a double-bill of thrillers that will recall both filmmakers' favorite exploitation films. "Grind House" will be presented as one full-length feature comprised of two individual films helmed separately by each director.
In Rodriguez's retro-futuristic Planet Terror, married doctors William and Dakota Block (Josh Brolin and Marley Shelton) find their graveyard shift inundated with townspeople ravaged by sores. Among the wounded is Cherry (Rose McGowan), a go-go dancer whose leg was ripped from her body during a roadside attack. As the invalids quickly become enraged aggressors, Cherry and her ex-boyfriend Wray (Freddy Rodríguez) lead a team of accidental warriors into the night, hurtling towards a destiny that will leave millions infected, countless dead, and a lucky few struggling to find the last safe corner of planet terror.
Tarantino's Death Proof Austin's hottest DJ, Jungle Julia (Sydney Tamiia Poitier), sets out into the night to unwind with her friends. Covertly tracking their moves is Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), a scarred rebel leering from behind the wheel of his muscle car, revving just feet away. As the girls settle into their beers, Mike's weapon, a white-hot juggernaut, revs just feet away.
"We've got missing reels, so for 15 minutes you wont know what happened. Something you've been waiting for finally happens, but you don't see it. People who hate each other become friends and you don't know why, I want people to say, QUENTIN YOU BASTARD! what the *beep* is going on?!"
- Quentin Tarantino
