Sypnosis
The Black Dahlia is based on a novel by Jakes Ellroy, which was inspired by the notorious 1940s murder case of Elizabeth Short. The movie tells the story of two L.A.P.D. cops, Bucky Bleichert (Josh Hartnett) and his partner, Lee Blanchard (Aaron Eckhart), whose personal lives turn to madness when the body of Elizabeth Short (Mia Kirshner), a beautiful and mysterious young woman, is discovered in a vacant lot. The two men turn what should be just another case into an obsession and their frenetic search to bring the young woman's killer to justice pulls the best friends apart and leads them down a path of corruption, deceit, passion and betrayal and even more death.
Rose McGowan's Role
Rose McGowan has a brief but a memorable role as Sheryl Saddon, an aspiring actress who shortly lived with Elizabeth Short. Sheryl, dressed in an Egyptian attire, passes on important information to the police regarding Elizabeth's activities from the period during which she knew the victim.
• "The Black Dahlia was shooting for a long time and they were right at the end of production when Brian De Palma called me out of the blue. I was at the end of the season when he called and we were able to work it out. I played this extra who thinks she's really made it big. Somebody asks her, 'Aren’t you trying to break into movies?' And she's in a Cleopatra outfit. 'Mister, I’m in the movies!' But then you look out and you see 10 extras all dressed in the same exact outfit. And it's time to get on the bus to go to work that day at the studio, which was a very common sight in LA. You just go 'Awwww'."
Quotes: Her Character
• "Poor Betty. The problem wasn't too many enemies, it was too many friends."
• "How about the world of high finance?"
• Bucky Bleichert: "How about the movies. You girls are all trying to break in, right?"
Sheryl Saddon: "Darling... I'm in."
• Sheryl Saddon: "She had a tendency to..."
Bucky Bleichert: "Strech the truth?"
Sheryl Saddon: "No. She fucking lied."
• "Well, how about you arrest me? 'Cause the truck don't wait!"
• "They weren't exactly studios..."
