Sypnosis
English twins, who despise each other, start rival vacuum cleaner companies across the street from each other.
Rose McGowan's Role
Rose McGowan plays Debbie Dinsdale, a worker in a vacuum factory. She is a dreamer at heart and has an odd talent; an extraordinary ability to hear noises better than most people. Jack (Kip Pardue) is new in town and he immediately takes notice of the stunningly beautiful Debbie. She likes him too and soon the two bond. They sit on a bridge, listening to the sounds of the town, and go 'fishing'. But neither Debbie nor Jack really feel like they belong. The other workers at the vacuum factory are hostile and their favorite activity is picking up fights with rival workers. The twosome dream of leaving all of it behind.
Debbie Dinsdale is a role unlike any other she's portrayed before. She is demure and trapped amidst the chaos of a small town and the rival vacuum companies. The only character that reminded me a little bit of Debbie is Moira Kennedy in Strange Hearts as both are fragile dreamers and the object of affection of both a character called Jack and an actor named Kip Pardue. Like Strange Hearts, this role allows Rose to use her big and expressive brown eyes to convey emotion while her dialogue is at times minimal. The result? She is magnetic to watch. Stealing Bess sees Rose at perhaps her most graceful to date.

• "I was doing a movie, Stealing Bess. But it was cool - I got to go around in Transylvania, which was pretty funny and silly. They sell one-dollar vampire wine. But I was filming in Belgrade."

• Rose was briefly involved with Kip Pardue, whom she also co-starred with in Strange Hearts.
• For this role, Rose dyed her jet-black hair to a carroty-blonde, which she calls the 'Ann-Margret color'. Rose was in the beauty parlor for 10 hours while they tried to lift all the black dye. "There's been so much dark for so long, it took a long, long time to get it light."
