A coming-of-age tale about a young man growing up in a dysfunctional family in the Irish-American enclave of South Boston. Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) leaves Boston, but is drawn back for the wedding of an old friend. He is pulled back into old enmities, and family problems. His sister Kathy (Rose McGowan) is a party girl with a self-destructive streak. His brothers are gamblers who owe money to the mob, and his old rival Joey would like revenge.

"Probably for emotionally satisfying reasons, a movie called Southie, where I played a badly dressed alcoholic."

• "That's actually a completely different role. I play this broken down alcoholic in South Boston. it's a tough Irish family drama. I kinda did it more for the experience to play a really external kind of character. I've been turning stuff down because I don't want to repeat myself. I'm waiting for people to get a clue that I'm capable of playing other things."
