Sypnosis
Sidney (Neve Campbell) has more than her share of teenage angst to cope with. Her mom was murdered a year ago, her dad is perpetually away on business, and her boyfriend Billy (Skeet Ulrich) is pressuring her to go all the way. As if that weren't enough, a serial killer has begun to terrorize Sidney's quiet hometown, including her highschool classmate Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore). With the calculated genius of a perfect predator, the killer is using his love of scary movies to turn the town upside down - taking everything he knows about the genre to trick his victims, outwit the police and throw his pursuers off base. Now, no one is safe - and everyone is a suspect.
Rose McGowan's Role
Rose McGowan plays Tatum Riley, a witty, smart, funny and tough high school student who attends Woodsboro High. She is Sidney's best friend, Stu Macher's girlfriend and younger sister of Officer Dewey Riley. Tatum appears to be the complete opposite of Sidney, being stronger-minded and an easygoing type of person. Despite this, Tatum looks after Sidney and helps her through her troubled times. She has always been there for Sidney and assumably helped her cope after the brutal rape and murder of Sid's mother. In the words of Rose herself, Tatum is like the "ultimate best friend." After the deaths of local students start to come up, Tatum is, unfortunately, one of the many people who eventually met their demise at the hands of the killer.

Quotes: Rose McGowan
•
On Wes Craven "He's the dad that you would have wanted."
• "Tatum is the classic best friend. She and Sidney have known each other since birth, and they are so close that they literally finish each other's sentences."
• "I think she really wants to believe that if you just have the right clothes and the right lipstick, everything should be perfect."
• "I was blonde in Scream, but that was for a particular reason. I wanted her to look like a middle American girl. I would do white blonde - I like the idea of platinum. I'll do that someday."
• "Yes, I wanted to look very middle American. It's a very middle American kind of hair, which I hated."
• "It was a real garage with a real door, and I went up and down it 20 times. It left me with big bruises all over my rib cage and my back, but I insisted on doing it myself because I think stunt doubles never really look like me. I have a real specific body."
• "Scream is the movie I had most fun on. It was a really great set, which is odd 'cause it looks like it was really intense. It was a really great environment. We had a blast and it was like a party every day."
• "What I didn't tell Wes Craven is that I cannot scream at all. I choke up. No sound. He had to scream at me, literally, when I did my death scene."
• "I would do it again just because it was a really fun experience to do it with a bunch of people that you really dig and have it turn out well. I am really happy about the success of it for everybody involved. They are really kick-ass human beings."
• "With Scream I got to experience the typical, all-American high school life that I never had so that was fun also."
• On the sequel possibilities
"Well, when I died in Scream, I pretty much understood that I was not going to be coming back I really enjoyed being with Neve Campbell and Wes Craven and I am sad not to be able to hang out with them more, but I get to see them socially. I have also done a lot of other roles that are really challenging so I don't feel a void and I was very happy not be a blond again."
• "I look back on it, and now I think it's probably the best set I've ever been on. It was so calm. It was very, very fun, but it was very, very calm. Wes has this lovely professorial tone. He's just got such a lovely, great energy."
