20th Century Fox has set a September 3, 2010 release date for Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis’ Machete, starring Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and Steven Seagal. Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 6, which gives the movie a four-day opening weekend.
Machete is based on the “fake” trailer in Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 Grindhouse. The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his “holy” brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.
Rose McGowan has a cameo in one of the faux trailers that accompany the film.

There seems to be a massive amount of rumors around Red Sonja at the moment. Pajiba reports that Nu Image/Millennium Films is changing directions on the film. The company announced in June of 2008 that Rose McGowan would star in the title role and that the film would be directed by Douglas Aarniokoski and produced by Robert Rodriguez.
Then last month, McGowan landed a role in Conan, also from Nu Image/Millennium Films, but not as Red Sonja leading to speculation that she was no longer on board. McGowan instead will play “an evil half-human/half-witch.” In addition to McGowan, Aarniokoski is apparently off the project as well and they are looking for another writer to take a pass at David N. White’s script.
Pajiba also reports that Megan Fox has been offered the role of Red Sonja. However, Megan’s publicist tells Moviefone the report is “not true.”
Rose herself responded the following on her Twitter:
It’s fine. It was Conan or that RT @GossipGuy556677: @rosemcgowan Fans Waited For Her to Be Red Sonja Since 2008. & Now Megan Fox Come and Take the Role!!! thats so UNFAIR!!!
So it seems that Rose is off the Red Sonja project, which is very disappointing as us fans have been following and eagerly awaiting the project for years.
This update shall conclude our coverage of Red Sonja, unless there will be an official announcement in the future, reporting that the film is back in production with Rose McGowan on board.

Four film, television and football stars are on a seven-day USO tour led by Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Three-time Emmy winner James Gandolfini, actress Rose McGowan, actor Tony Sirico and New Orleans Saints offensive tackle Jon Stinchcomb are touring as part of an ongoing USO tradition of partnering with senior leaders and working with celebrity entertainers to bring a touch of home to troops stationed abroad. Since they began working in a partnership with the office of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2000, the USO officials have worked with four chairmen to deploy a dozen entertainment tours.
This trip is the first USO tour for McGowan and Stinchcomb. It’s the second for Gandolfini and Sirico, who starred in the acclaimed HBO series “The Sopranos” and traveled to Kuwait and Iraq in 2004, brightening the day for more than 1,700 U.S. troops.
Rose called it the “honor of her life” as well as saying:
“Having the opportunity to travel on a USO tour with Admiral Mullen and visit our nation’s troops was the opportunity of a lifetime,” said McGowan.
Rose also tweeted this after her trip:
