We had the privilege of getting to review Rose McGowan’s next film, The Pastor’s Wife, ahead of it’s debut next Saturday, November 5, at 8 pm ET/PT on Lifetime. Read on for Riikka’s take on the film and Rose’s performance as Mary Winkler – and be sure to tune in next week to watch it yourself!
Based on a true story that made national headlines, The Pastor’s Wife centers on the 2006 death of Matthew Winkler, a beloved minister and community leader who was mysteriously shot and killed in his home. During their investigation, the authorities soon zero in on Matthew’s wife, Mary, as the crime’s prime suspect.
But why would Mary, a dutiful preacher’s wife and young mother of three girls, kill her husband? During her trial, shocking secrets about her relationship with Matthew are exposed, answering the disturbing questions many are asking about what really went on behind the closed doors of this “perfect family.”
Based on the non-fiction book by Dianne Fanning, The Pastor’s Wife is produced by Preacher Road Productions Ltd. and Front Street Pictures, with Gerald W. Abrams, Mike Moran, Juliet Smith and Harvey Kahn executive producing. Norma Bailey directs a screenplay written by Robert L. Freedman.
Ask Rose McGowan what she liked about any of her characters, and the word “strong” is bound to come up at least once. The Pastor’s Wife showcases a completely different side of the actress. Here she is Mary Winkler, the wife of Matthew Winkler, a beloved minister and community leader, and mother of three. Mary, unlike Amy Blue, Courtney Shayne, Cherry Darling and many of the characters McGowan is best known for, is soft-spoken, timid and even invisible to those around her. At first sight she appears as to be the antithesis of a quintessential McGowan character. However, as the title of the movie implies, The Pastor’s Wife puts the actress and her character front and center of the story, which allows Rose to act out a wide range of intense emotions.

Napa is about to get a good-looking female sheriff.
Rose McGowan, a prominent Hollywood actress, will play a veteran of the Afghanistan war turned Napa County sheriff in a new movie, Napa, that is scheduled to begin shooting here at the end of the month.
According to director and screenwriter Michael Kerr, film crews are scheduled to begin two weeks of filming at various Napa County locations starting Oct. 31. Producers plan to use several local wineries and the Napa County Courthouse as backdrops.
Shooting is planned to continue in Los Angeles in the second half of November. Producers plan to release Napa in mid-2012, though no distribution deal has been announced.
Though set in wine country, the plot of Napa heavily overhauls Hans Ostrom’s 1991 novel Three to Get Ready, a tale of a new sheriff (a male lawman in the book) in a Sierra Nevada village trying to solve a series of killings while battling small-town politics and the summer wildfire season.
