This year also marks the announcement of the 1st annual Cherry Darling Award; celebrating brave independent women in the film and television industry making a difference in their community. She likes fast cars, classic films of the 1940′s, wears high heels despite an injured ankle. She became an actress by chance. The charming Rose McGowan talked about the beginnings of her career, work with Tarantino and Rodriguez and her passion for action movies.
She never wanted to be an actress. She moved to Los Angeles from rainy Seattle, lived with her boyfriend and wanted to start college. At that moment, her boyfriend died. Totally devastated, she lived at her friends’ place and a friend of a friend offered her first film acting role. She refused, but when she realised that thanks to the film she could make money and buy herself a flat, she changed her mind.
Rose McGowan is very closely tied to her siblings. She talked proudly of what they do now and how great and adventurous their childhood was. “We would go to the police station, tell that we escaped from home and come from a different town. They would give us money for a bus and we were going to the town we never before visited. Thus we saw many places.” Her childhood not always was this carefree. At the age of 14 she worked at a funeral home, and a year later she lost the roof above her head.
