Dawn (2013, short, drama)
Directed by Rose McGowan
Starring Tara Barr, Reiley McClendon and Hannah Marks

"I just finished my first piece for RSA Black Dog, which is Ridley Scott's commercial music video company. I directed a 20-minute short with amazing actors. It was a really amazing project to do, and I felt really comfortable doing it, more so than I ever have acting."

Here’s a quick update for tonight as I’m very busy with university at the moment.

First of all, Rose went to the Dior Beauty Dinner yesterday. As usual, she looked nothing short of stunning! Here’s a little article, courtesy of

Monaghan and Angie Harmon did a quick change into Dior for dinner at the Chateau Marmont in honor of Dior Beauty. Harmon playfully re-enacted a scene from Pretty Woman with a jewelry box full of Dior makeup. Rose McGowan, meanwhile, was relieved to skip the Oscar weekend craziness with a trip to Austin the next day with fiancé Robert Rodriguez. “You know, sometimes I just tell people I’m a botanist,” the actress admitted.

How cute! 😉

Mycah has added two sets adorable candids from earlier this month. Rose is pictured out and about in Beverly Hills and NYC.

I’ve added four clips of Rose’s role as Lisa in Phantoms. Here you can see Rose co-star opposite one of her favorite actors, Peter O’Toole. The movie is not amazing in itself but I think Rose does a decent job and looks very beautiful!

And last but certainly not least, some project news. Man on the Run has been renamed 50 Dead Men Walking. Its current rumored UK release date is October 2008 – no word on US release yet. The Essentials official website has been updated with new material, including a promo spot, which I’ve capped. The series kicks off March 8, 2008 on TCM. Look forward to a big Essentials related update soon here at!

Born in Florence, Italy, Rose McGowan moved to the United States as a teenager to pursue a career in acting. A role in Encino Man (1992) paved the way for McGowan’s first starring role in The Doom Generation, a nihilistic teen movie from New Queer Cinema director Greg Araki, for which she was nominated at the 1996 Independent Spirit Awards for a Best Debut Performance award. McGowan’s raven hair and striking, pale hued good looks have led to comparisons with European horror queen Barbara Steele, and her roles have taken a similarly dark turn. Appearing in Wes Craven’s Scream(1996) and nominated for a Best Villain award for her performance in 1999’s macabre teen comedy Jawbreaker, McGowan is perhaps best known for her five-year stint on supernatural sitcom Charmed, in which she played the long-lost Halliwell sister Paige. Along with Michael Parks, Josh Brolin, Marley Shelton and Quentin Tarantino, McGowan appears in Robert Rodriguez’s horror film Planet Terror, as a brunette go-go dancer named Cherry…

Q: Were you apprehensive about making a movie in the grindhouse tradition?

I’ve had people say, “Oh, are they intentionally going to make a bad film?” I know why they’d say that, because those films weren’t always the best. But I was like, “No, the homage is really to the directors, who were the mavericks working outside the studio system and breaking all the cardinal sins of movie-making, i.e. killing kids, killing dogs, doing all the things you’re not supposed to do in films. Robert is doing it within the system, and that’s pretty badass.” That’s my take, anyway, and I think he’s thrilled to be doing that.

I have some amazing – and very surprising – news to bring you today: Rose has been working on writing her own TV series for the past few months! Check out the following article from The Associated Press for more details:

Shhh, don’t tell anyone what Rose McGowan’s been up to for the past few months.

“I’ve spent most of the writer’s strike … writing. Wait, that sounds terrible!” she said, standing backstage Monday at the Max Azria show at Fashion Week.

“But I’m not part of the union, so it doesn’t matter,” explained the 34-year-old strawberry blond, known as much for her failed engagement to Marilyn Manson as for her roles on the TV show Charmed, or as a go-go dancer with a machine gun for a leg in last year’s film Grindhouse.

Manson has since gone younger — the singer is currently dating 20-year-old actress Evan Rachel Wood. McGowan, meanwhile, has been nursing an interest in slightly older men — the subject of her writing project.

“I’m writing a TV show about old men. I have kind of a yen for them. It’s going to be like a Golden Girls, but with men,” said McGowan, for whom no writing credits are listed on IMDB.

It has been a while since I’ve capped Charmed episodes so I thought I’d catch up a little. I capped four episodes from season 7. I especially love Paige’s look in Extreme Makeover World Edition – the red top and red lippy are super hot, don’t you think?

Charmed – 7.09 Captures

Finally I can bring you clips and some of featurettes from the two-disc Planet Terror DVD! Both Riikka and I have been having problems with our video editing and encoding software for months, but we think (*crosses fingers*) we have them worked out now. So I have finally gotten around to making the clips from Planet Terror, which so many of you were asking for. It was incredibly hard choosing scenes because Rose is just amazing in the entire movie, but these is merely a teaser of the goodness of Cherry Darling! If you have not seen the film, seriously, what are you waiting for?! You can pick up a copy right over on Amazon. Download all the film clips and some of the DVD featurettes trimmed down in the video vault.

I have also added a massive new batch of ear candy on the audios page. 😉 Rose has so many funny and memorable lines from her films, I personally love popping them on my iPod (or listing on the PC) so I thought others would want to do the same! More of these shall come with time. Anyways, happy downloading!

Rose McGowan, who recently wowed audiences with her performance in the movie double-feature Grindhouse, is coming to Turner Classic Movies (TCM) in March 2008 as co-host of The Essentials, the network’s signature movie showcase. McGowan will take a chair opposite TCM host Robert Osborne, just as she did during TCM’s recent Guest Programmer month in November. Starting Saturday, March 8 at 8 p.m., Osborne and McGowan will introduce “must see” movies each week with an eye toward helping viewers better understand why these films are important and the impact they had on audiences and the culture at large.

“During our many shoots with Guest Programmers this year, we encountered a lot of celebrities who impressed us with their knowledge and love of classic film,” said Tom Brown, vice president of original programming for TCM. “But Rose really stood out, because she was so passionate and insightful. We thought it would be great for her to share her passion with the audience by co-hosting The Essentials in 2008.”

McGowan’s first film as co-host of The Essentials will be Billy Wilder’s serious-yet-comic classic The Apartment, which earned the Oscar® for Best Picture of 1960. McGowan notes that Wilder is “the master of humorous loneliness.” Other featured films will include Rebecca (“a great, atmospheric gothic-horror-romance,” McGowan said); Paths of Glory (“not a war film, but a horror film about a man’s ego”); Modern Times (“Chaplin is great at intertwining social commentary with physicality”); A Face in the Crowd (which stars Andy Griffith and is “a great example of why actors shouldn’t be typecast”); Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (“a masculine film with great, subversive feminism”); and Woman of the Year (“proves you can be a feminist and still be a man”).

Remember that two months back Rose mentioned in the Q&A that she would co-host The Essentials with Robert Osborne on Turner Classic Movies? “Something I’m so excited to tell you is that I’m going to be co-hosting The Essentials with Robert Osborne on Turner Classic Movies. I’m beyond excited. To be discussing classic films with a brilliant film historian is a dream come true. The only thing that would make it more perfect would be to have my beloved Bug and Fester by my side. I suppose that IS too much to ask. :)))”

Well, TCM have officially announced it in the press this week! Check out this report from NY Post:

Charmed co-star Rose McGowan will join TCM’s Robert Osborne to co-host The Essentials beginning March 8. McGowan is no stranger to TCM; she was a “guest programmer” with Osborne last November.

On The Essentials, Osborne and McGowan will introduce interesting movies, starting with Billy Wilder’s The Apartment, which won an Oscar in 1960 with costars Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine and Fred MacMurray.

Here’s to hoping that we’ll see a cameo appearance from Rose’s beloved pups! 😉 Either way, this is indeed exciting news!

Some sites have published their annual “Best and Worst” of 2007 lists and sitting on many is Grindhouse! I know it’s personally my favorite movie of last year. The movie also sits at #170 of’s top 250 movies of all time. Here are a few excerpts as well as scans from Entertainment Weekly‘s Best of 2007 December 28th issue and Wizard – May 2007.

It’s a real shame that Grindhouse performed so poorly, although it’s nice to see Tarantino and Rodriguez get a dose of reality. Although the films don’t really have a good repeat value, the experience of seeing this in the theater with the faux trailer was more than epic. It was the experience of a lifetime… too bad you all missed it. Suckers.

From Entertainment Weekly
Its commercial failure is easily explained: In the ADD era, asking audiences to sit through a three-hour double feature of droolingly fetishized meta-trash was madness. Yet Grindhouse is a scuzz marvel, a feast for B-movie junkies. Robert Rodriguez’s zombie orgy Planet Terror, starring Rose McGowan and her machine-gun leg, may be the slyest genre send-up ever; it’s the Far From Heaven of schlock, with a wink of a giggle embedded in every faux-grimy frame. As for Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, it’s more than the most stupendous car chase since… you name it. It’s also a rock-on vision of sexual warfare, with Kurt Russell’s sleazy Stuntman Mike using his demolition-mobile as a carnal battering ram, only to run headlong into a new age of much faster pussycats.

Coming March 6 to region 2 is the 6-disc DVD set of Grindhouse, which you’ll have to import from Japan. This release looks to be better than the US DVD release, so this is probably the edition to invest in – even though it still looks disappointing. It looks as if many of the features have already been used, while other look like they were pulled from the press kit for the theatrical release of the film. But on disc five is the full theatrical cut that we’re hoping includes the faux trailers!

And as we reported earlier, Robert Rodriguez also mentioned on DVD commentary for Planet Terror, that a two disc version of Grindhouse will be coming to the US shortly. Still no word on it’s possible features except that it will include a Rodriguez DVD favorite – a cooking school;  “texas barbeque style.”

Read on for the Japanese 6-Disc DVD specs, thanks to for the cool news!

Read on for the specs.
