Dawn (2013, short, drama)
Directed by Rose McGowan
Starring Tara Barr, Reiley McClendon and Hannah Marks

"I just finished my first piece for RSA Black Dog, which is Ridley Scott's commercial music video company. I directed a 20-minute short with amazing actors. It was a really amazing project to do, and I felt really comfortable doing it, more so than I ever have acting."

I’ve finally made screencaptures of the Grindhouse Comic Con 2006 featurette. It is included on many international releases of the Planet Terror DVD, including R2. Unfortunately, it is not the full Comic Con presentation and Rose basically only speaks once in it, discussing her experiences of shooting on digital.

Article written on June 27, 2009 by Mycahe-mail gave an early announcement to retailers indicating that Genius Products and The Weinstein Company are set to release Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse on Blu-ray on August 11. No edition details are available, other than this would be a two-disc set, but it may we but it may well be the theatrical Grindhouse double feature. Grindhouse was conceived, edited and shown theatrically (in the US) as a typical exploitation double-feature as one could attend at cheap theaters in the 1970s: it consisted of two features (Planet Terror, by Robert Rodriguez, and Death Proof by Quentin Tarantino), interspersed with fake trailers and bumpers.

'Red Sonja'

The ‘She-devil with a sword- last seen on out screens as Brigitte Nielsen in Richard Fleischer’s shonky in out multiplexes as soon as we thought. Set to be directed by Douglas Aarniokoski and star Rose McGowan, with Robert Rodriguez producing, the project is now on hiatus.

“Because of certain issues and the economy, we had to change our plan a bit,” admits executive producer Joe Gatta, who’s also producing the Conan reboot.”It’s frustrating because we thought we’d make the movie last year, before Conan.”

Gatta is still confident Red Sonja will go before cameras in 2010, and he can confirm this will be an origin stoy that ignores Fleisher’s shaky stub at the flame-haired warrioress and goes straight to the source: Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith’s comic-book character, despite the fact that she started out as a Conan comic-book spin-off.

Gatta is confident of the character’s stansalone appeal. “She’s beautiful and sexy, and she kicks ass! Although you have to be really careful so it’s not campy. You want to make it real. Make her convicingly tough. And I think we have a script that’s cracked it.”

Project News

I am a huge fan of Sylvia Plath and The Bell Jar is my all time favorite novel. Since Rose McGowan is going to appear in the film adaptation of the novel, I thought I’d post a little more information about the movie in addition to Mycah’s post.

Julia Stiles, who will star as Esther Greenwood, has been working on developing Plath’s novel into a film for over five years.

“Whenever I mention that I am working on turning The Bell Jar into a film, immediately people offer, ‘how depressing!’ Not only is that somewhat dismissive, but it shows that the real tragedy of Plath’s suicide (for those who didn’t know her personally) is that it overshadows her writing. In a recent NY Times editorial, Joyce Carol Oates describes Plath as ‘a rare genius,’ and I don’t think this is an overstatement. Sylvia Plath managed to combine her sensitivity with an obsessive dedication to the English language. She writes, ‘The blood jet is poetry, there is no stopping it.’ Her words are potent and electric, and even as I write this, I realize how difficult it is to be that original.

In the poem Lady Lazarus, Plath describes regaining consciousness after her first (failed) suicide attempt. She writes, ‘hey had to call and call/ and pick the worms off me like sticky pearls..’ Plath often combines the beautiful and the grotesque, a testament to her hallucinatory imagination.” – Julia Stiles

You can read more of Julia’s thoughts about Plath and adapting her work here. It is obvious that Stiles is incredibly passionate about the material, which certainly makes fans like myself happy.

The film is currently in development, with no production or release date announced.

Rose will have a smaller supporting role as Doreen, a fun, wild and rebellious friend of Esther’s. Read for more information about the character under the cut.

Yesterday Miss McGowan attended the opening night of Oleanna at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Oleanna is a play that stars Rose’s The Bell Jar co-star Julia Stiles. Rose looks positively glowing in her little black dress.
