Robert Rodriguez tells the IESB that Barbarella might be headed back to Universal within a week:
Just last week The New York Observer broke the news that Universal had ditched their plans for Robert Rodriguez’s Barbarella. According to the paper it all had to do with the casting of Rose McGowan but Robert has denied the reports claiming that it had to do with the skyrocketing budget.
During last Fridays’ Spike TV’s Scream Awards Rodriguez told IESB that, “we will know in a week about Barbarella and it might go back to Universal.â€
Did Rodriguez and Universal come to an agreement? According to the director, it was always about the budget and not about the casting of his new girlfriend Rose McGowan. Robert has said that the budget is currently at 82 million but that the studio is willing to do it for 60 million.
I hope that’s the case for Robert because talking with multiple studio execs in Hollywood, all the major studios are most likely to pass on a Barbarella starring Rose McGowan at the level budget that he is looking for.
Let’s see if this week brings news for the troubled sci-fi project.
fnatastic
I get so annoyed reading reports about the hold-up being a case of Rose castage … how many big budget A-list remakes and the like turn out to be flashy box office bombs (or, at least, are critically panned as such)–Catwoman anyone?
I think this role and the kind of direction this project could take are perfect for our girl and, given the chance, she’ll more than prove it. Robert was right about her for Cherry & I’m sure he’s not wrong about this.
Thank God,it seems it’s going to work..
A week;just a week and we will know…
So excited *fingers crossed*
Never a good thing when a director puts his squeeze in the top spot. Even someone as talented as Rose.
And even with a modern redo I dont think R.R. has the wit to remake Barberella.
Has anyone heard, it has been more than a week, I defintely want to see Rose in this film.
